Cats I've fostered

Zorro

Backstory

A friend found him in the street but couldn't keep him because she had her own cats. So me and my girlfriend took him on !

His stay with us

At first we thought he had wandered away or something, so we made him a bed and bought him cat food. We took him to the vet to see if anyone was looking for him and if he was ok and as it turns out he was terminally ill and was probably abandoned by his owners because they couldn't pay the vet fees. We tried to ease his pain as much as we could but about a week in he deteriorated too much and we had to put him down. As you can imagine this was all very sad !! We had his ashes buried in a river bank where we go every summer so we still visit him.

RIP Zorro

Toutou, Paco, Paquito

Backstory

After this extremely devastating experience for some reason we decided we wanted to actually foster for a non-profit, so we sent out a few applications. We got an answer and they told us to start with a family because the mom would do all the work and it was actually very easy. We picked up a mother and her two kittens. Lies!

Their stay with us

The mother is the tortoiseshell one, she was found on the street with Paco (the one standing up). Paquito, the other kitten, was found in a glue trap. They came to our place, the mother was very shy and it took a long long time to get her to leave her hiding spots. The kittens were easier, although paquito decided to create a poop mural behind our bed and paco had the runny shits for a month (the smell of our appartment was great as you can imagine).

Paco and Paquito were adopted within a week of each other, but the mom stayed with us a bit longer as we needed to figure out how she'd be without kittens. She blossomed as soon as they were gone and we kept her for a month longer, until she was adopted herself. We actually thought about adopting her ourselves because she was the sweetest but we don't have the cash for a cat.

Lune

Backstory

Lulu was found in a dump in Brittany. She was in another foster family before us who was going on vacation for a few weeks, so we were supposed to keep her until they came back. Lies again ! We ended up keeping her for six months.

Her stay with us

Lulu was very apathetic, she had a bunch of drool and trouble eating. We had to insist to see a vet, and we learned she had mouth and throat problems. So we gave her medicine, which in turn gave her diabetes. We had to inject her with insuline twice a day, until one day we found her convulsing under our couch. Turns out, she had actually gotten better and as we kept giving her insulin she "overdosed". After one night's stay at the vet she came home feeling much much better, but her mouth problems came back almost right away. We had to pass her onto another foster family after six months of keeping her because we didn't have the availability for so many treatments anymore (which was very sad), and she stayed there for six more months where she was completely cured thanks to an experimental chinese medicine.

She was one of the most expensive cats the non-profit ever had, as she went to the vet almost every two weeks and had so many treatments. I miss her still ! She's since been adopted into antoher lesbian couple which is funny because I'm pretty sure she's a mysoginist or at least a lesbophobe.

- Goes nuts for tuna,

- Follows you around like a little dog

Paupiette

Backstory

Paupiette was found in a campground with her kitten. They were taken to a shelter, and the kitten was adopted. She had to be taken on by us because she didn't tolerate being around other cats.

Her stay with us

Paupiette is extremely shy and probably quite traumatized. We've had her four months now, and we've had to restrict acces to under the couch because she basically spent three months under there. Since then she's much more relaxed ! She's let us pet her since the beginning but only now is she okay with us moving around, making a bit of noise, making sudden movements (as far as we're not too close)...

She's a sweet cat but she smells like roadkill because she won't wash herself. We're trying to figure out why, hopefully we won't find out something as bad as we did for Lulu.

Character

- Very reserved,

- Doesn't know how to meow,

- Will contort herself so you scratch just the right spot
